Aviemore Station is a late 19th century, railway station of timber construction. The original buildings were opened in 1863 when the mainline went to Inverness, via Grantown on Spey and Forres, and then rebuilt in 1892 when the "direct" line to Inverness via Slochd was being built. The busy station serves Aviemore in Cairngorms National Park and is part of a 'transport hub' with easy access to taxis, buses, cycling and walking routes. In 1998 the station was restored and refurbished. Strathspey Steam Railway took over the island platform as their southern terminus. The view from the main station platform is stunning with an uninterrupted view of Cairngorm and the Northern Corries.
