DROCHAID CHÀRR

Carrbridge Station is a ten minute (half mile) walk from the village centre. About half of the train services stop. Facilities include a PA system, waiting room and a help point.

Carrbridge is the northern gateway to the Cairngorms National Park and is named after it’s old packhorse bridge built in 1717, the oldest stone bridge in the Highlands. The village has a strong community and is home to the popular Landmark Forest Adventure Park and several annual events. Carrbridge has a range of food & drink establishments and accommodation, as well as a local shop and post office. There are many local activities including walking, cycling, nature watching, pony trekking, golf, bowling and skiing on the Cairngorms.

The station opened in 1892 with the completion of the the line from Aviemore. The line onwards to Inverness (Inverness and Aviemore Direct Railway) was opened in 1898. Prior to this, all services to Inverness were via Forres. The station building is ‘Grade B’ listed.

Heading north from Carrbridge, the line climbs up to Slochd Summit (401m), the second highest place on the Perth to Inverness line. There is a sign at the summit.

The station has an active Friends of Carrbridge Station group who help look after the station and tend the plants.
